Church World Service, which our church partners with in matters of disaster relief and ministry to refugees and other struggling people around the world, reports that there is still a need for "kits" of all kinds but especially BABY KITS and SCHOOL KITS. It is amazing how much a few simple items, most of which we have lying around the house and take for granted, can mean to people who have very little and for whom everyday is a struggle just to survive.
The contents of these kits can be seen by clicking on this link: www.churchworldservice.org/kits
You can participate by purchasing some or all of the items for the kits and bringing them to the church where we will assemble them and prepare them for shipping. CWS will see that they get where they are most needed. Or, you can donate money which will be used to purchase items for the kits. If you plan to shop for kit items please sign up at the display table in the church so we can know how much of each item is being purchased and thus better co-ordinate our efforts.
Thanks, everyone for your interest in this great outreach project!
The Mission Team of ZCC ( the church that "helps those far and near")
There is an on-going need for people to go to a variety of work stations in the Katrina impact area. We have had two groups rebuilding homes in Louisiana. A group will be scheduled later in the year. When it has been scheduled, it will be posted here.
WORK: The clean-up phase is over. The need now is re-habing homes to make them livable again. This might mean drywall, roofing, windows or other repairs to the structure.
LODGING: We will sleep in the church. There are showers, washer and dryer. We will need to bring sleeping bags and air matresses.
FOOD: We are responsible for our own food. There are restaurants and grocery store that are open again so we will not need to transport any food. There is a kitchen in the church which is available for our use.
EXPENSES: The only expense will be our transportation and food.
WAYS YOU CAN HELP: People of various skill levels are needed. Some experience with carpentry and woodworking is helpful. Others can provide general help and assistance. Someone might want to volunteer to go and do the cooking. Others might want to help support the effort finacially by helping with our expenses or sending gifts to the people whose homes we are working on.
